Daft theories

These are ideas that I had at one time or another that have since been declared Untrue either by Greg in person or by evidence. I've kept them here because they're also Fun: and while they aren't part of "The" Glorantha, they can become part of yours. Or they can be used as rumours. Or you can just have a good laugh.

How did Sartar win over the Telmori?

Most of the serious ideas are discussed here. The one bit that Greg stamped out was the idea that it is possible, according to "Dorastor", to be adopted into the Telmor cult, and Sartar might have done that. All you have to do is prove you can change into wolf form: Sartar, as a master of the Motion Rune, would have had no trouble there. That would make him, by Telmori law, one of them.

Unfortunately that would mean he was not allowed to mate with humans, as that would be beastiality - the Telmori believe they're wolves in human form. The FHQ might be allowed, as she's the incarnation of the Lady of the Wild, but Enent (Eonistaran's mother) would have been illegal if she was human. (We know nothing about her: which is an interesting point in itself!). Possibly Sartar was Illuminated, thus avoiding the geas, and didn't tell the Telmori about Enent. But what happens to all his offspring, all of whom, by Telmori law, are themselves Telmori? I think we're going to have to drop that idea of beastiality, or make an exception for adopted Telmori.

If Sartar did change into wolf form for adoption purposes, did he mate with any lady wolves while he was at it? Could we, for instance, say that Kostajor is of the Sartar blood line? And speaking of Kostajor......

Kostajor: where did he go?

After 1613, what happened to Kostajor Wolf-Champion? After his wolf-brother was killed and he was exiled, where would he go? His over-riding motivations seem to have been the preservation of his race and the protection of the Kingdom of Sartar. And "Dorastor" makes it clear that to lose a wolf-brother is devastating: a loss of status and identity. This is pure guess-work, but Kostajor may have felt it was time for a new start. He may have felt it was time to learn more about the cult he was defending, and gone off to study Orlanth. Since the Orlanthi accept anyone who breaths air and is non-chaotic, he would have been welcomed (assuming that he was either Pure himself or had quested to remove his own curse), and his awesome combat skills would have meant a rapid rise through the cult. He might have taken a new name to show his new status, though we would expect him to keep some wolf connection apparent.

Funnily enough, it is about now that a new Wind Lord appears in Pavis. He is "tall, broad-shouldered, swart, and pale-eyed". Polite but brief towards Lunars and trolls, reserved but helpful towards Orlanthi. "He is said to come from any number of nations, including Sartar, the Holy Country, legendary Ralios, ....", but "he does not speak of his origins". He's devoted to the Sartarite cause, though cautious not to anger the Lunars without need. His name is Krogar Wolf-Helm. Coincidence? Well yes, probably, in all honesty. But this is just too good to miss! I have yet to find any evidence, much less proof, that Krogar Wolf-Helm is not Kostajor Wolf-Champion (other than Greg's objections - oh, well).

What do we have on Krogar's history? He makes an appearance or two in Cults of Prax, along with Garrath Sharpsword, whom he seems to know well. At one point in 1616 he is called by Orlanth to go to Swenstown, and seems glad to go, though we are not told the reason or the outcome. He does not appear in the Cradle scenario (1621) so presumably has left Pavis by then.

More detail of his character is given in "Strangers in Prax", where he seems to have an alynx allied spirit. I'm not sure how this fits in with his wolf links, but it's not impossible.
